Cannabis Drinks for a Toronto Summer: What to Know and What to Try

THC and CBD beverages hit faster than edibles, dose cleaner than joints, and travel well. A guide to picking cannabis drinks for patios, parks, and barbecues.

June 17, 2021 · Seven Point Cannabis

Toronto summer is short and we all try to live a year’s worth of patio in three months. Cannabis drinks were built for exactly this season: no smoke drifting over the neighbour’s fence at a barbecue, no lighter required, a printed dose on every can, and most run light on sugar and calories compared to a cocktail. They’ve quietly become the best-selling summer category at both of our stores.

Why drinks behave differently than edibles

Most infused beverages use emulsified cannabinoids, which absorb faster than a traditional gummy or brownie. Customers typically report feeling them in 15 to 30 minutes, with effects running two to four hours: quicker feedback and a shorter commitment than standard edibles. That makes them easier to pace at a social event, but the golden rule still applies. Finish one, wait, and see where you land before opening another. They’re drinks, not rounds.

The other habit worth building: keep infused cans visibly separate from the regular cooler stash at any gathering. Every can is labelled, but nobody reads labels at a barbecue.

Picking by dose, not by flavour

Flavours rotate every season; the dose tiers don’t. The shelf breaks down roughly like this:

  • Sessionable (2 to 2.5 mg THC). The “one beer” of cannabis drinks. Social, light, easy to have alongside conversation without losing the thread. Where almost everyone should start.
  • Balanced (equal THC and CBD, often 2.5 or 5 mg each). The CBD rounds off the THC, giving a relaxed, mellow profile that suits long afternoons. Includes the “cannabis beer” style bottles built for barbecue duty.
  • CBD-forward (10 mg+ CBD, trace THC). Sparkling waters and iced teas for a calm patio evening with no impairment to speak of.
  • Full-strength (10 mg THC). The legal single-package maximum, and genuinely a lot if you’re not experienced. One can is a whole evening. Not a starter product.

There are also CBD tea bags for the evening-wind-down crowd, which steep like any herbal tea and pair well with a cottage weekend.

Grab a mixed four-pack and find your lane

Brands like XMG, Mollo, Little Victory, Everie, and Tweed cycle through our coolers, with new flavours landing every summer. The smart first purchase is a few different single cans across dose tiers rather than a commitment to any one. Swing by High Park or King West and ask what’s coldest and newest, or order ahead for pickup on your way to the park.

19+ only, and please don’t drive after a 10 mg can. Or a 5. You know this.
